  3. #3 Best Greek Life Colleges in TexasUniversity of Texas - AustinAustin, TX·4 Year·Rating 4 out of 5 6,787 reviewsSophom*ore: I really love the city of Austin! The "weirdness" of Austin jumps out at you in the best way. The countless times I've gone to the groovy thrift stores or south Congress Ave with friends have been some of the best moments of my young life. The culture at UT is one of a kind as well. I feel that every person attending college feels a certain amount of pride in their school, like its a part of their identity almost. With UT its that and then some. Being from Maryland, experiencing the lone star state has been otherworldly. The pride in Texans and in the school is like no other, and it has certainly rubbed of on me. Though I am only a sophom*ore I am a Longhorn though and through! On top of the great city, the larger than life students, the sports and the like, UT is an academic institution first. Classes can be tough, and you feel it. Having to juggle social life with the grueling curriculum is something I had to work very hard for and still haven't quite got the hang of yet.... I honestly did not know what to expect at first I had mixed feelings since I knew no one at Tech. During welcome week I grew familiar of the campus, fond of the people, and a sense of belonging and school pride. I loved my first year! I was able to study in multiple areas on campus, attend supplemental instruction and gain more practice and reaffirm me knowledge of the material in class. I found out the best way I retain material and what study habits worked best for me. Overall, I have only a few things I would change. I had a roomate issue which escalated and it was reported multiple times, but housing took a while to resolve the issue. Another thing I would like to see is a reinforcement in quiet hours in the dorm because at 2-4 in the morning the dorms were unusally loud on weekends and weekdays.... 7. #6 Best Greek Life Colleges in TexasTexas State UniversitySan Marcos, TX·4 Year·Rating 3.85 out of 5 6,664 reviewsSophom*ore: my first year at Texas State was amazing overall. I stayed in Bexar hall and it was very spacious and comfortable, the only thing is it was cold year-round. my roommate and I had our own bathroom so that was a big plus. While there is lot of walking involved on campus, the classes and professors make up for it. The resources on campus such as the study, writing center, etc. help with adjustments overall as a student. I would also advise you to go to as many school events as you can As there are a lot year-round. Go to career fairs and student organization, fairs to get yourself acquainted and find a organization for yourself to make friends and build connections. When it comes to food, I recommend going to commons for breakfast in Harris for any other meal. The square is such a good place to wind down and so is the river. I recommend making use of the recreation center as well as the library too! Lastly, the party scene is OK, but you always just need to be careful where you go!... Austin State University (SFA) holds a special place in my heart, offering a beautiful blend of nature, strong academics, and vibrant social opportunities. The picturesque campus, with its lush greenery and towering pine trees, provides an inspiring backdrop for learning and personal growth. Academically, SFA excels with well-structured courses and approachable, knowledgeable faculty who offer valuable guidance and support. The wide array of clubs, fraternities, and sororities creates countless opportunities to build lasting friendships and a sense of community. I was able to go out of my comfort zone. I liked that there was so many activities for me to do at the student center. There were also so many special events like listening to a celebrity talk about their experiences, or going to art shops and making something for free. There would even be movie nights where you can watch new movies with other students. One of the other things I liked is how green it is on campus. They have a lot of environmental stuff going on and they use wind turbines to help power the school! I really like going to school at UNT but I would like to have some changes to make it better. Some of the roads around campus need some construction work. It makes it really hard to drive around certain parts of campus because of this issue. Another issue is that housing needs to be more organized. It’s hard to get a room if you’re an upperclassman. There needs to be a dorm that houses upperclassmen.... If I were to write this review solely based on my own experiences, I would say the only issue I had was with very few professors. Miscommunications and lack of understanding led to mistreatment towards my grade, but these were very limited instances, with very few professors. Other than those incidents, I had the best time making friends, and finding people who I could relate to as well as people who could help broaden my perspectives. I also had a lot of fun with the active clubs. I find the campus setting quite fun and find myself spending a lot of time in the recreation center. I found a lot of solace in my academic stress in the library as well. My academic experiences were pretty solid, other than the issues I mentioned previously. UTSA has so many programs and is so inclusive that it is not hard to find your people. The people that you grow with, the people that you build core memories with, and the people that set you on the right path. Based on my experience, the more active you are with campus organizations the better your experience will be. I love the UTSA community, however, if I could change anything it would be the student residential living. More specifically parking, and this is due to the disproportionate ratio of students to parking spots. You don't have to walk more than 10 minutes to get to the other side of campus and there are plenty of ways to cut through. The students and staff are super friendly for the most part. All of my professors have been down to earth and understanding. The only thing I think might need some change is the parking and representation of student organizations. Their system of purchasing parking passes is horrible as the queue is randomized, likely leaving you with no parking near campus. I think it's also a little harder to discover the different organizations affiliated with UTEP. It would be extremely beneficial if they dedicated a day to setting up booths solely to advertise the student organizations. To start, my dorm (Baker) lost power randomly once, but overall it was a good experience. I enjoyed my classes and felt like I was given adequate workload, and my professors were great with working around my travel schedule for baseball in the Spring season. The campus food could be better (one of the things I'd like to see change) but it's servings for athletes is a good amount. I had a great campus life. Students and all athletes seemed to get along really well. I had the opportunity to work on campus and definitely learned a lot while making new friends too. I feel like if there was something that really could be changed, I'd like to see the success of the athletic programs turned around for the better. If you're looking for an involved community I highly recommend living there. It is a two-year contract, but definitely worth it. Overall professors are nice and they enjoy what they are teaching. There are also so many clubs and events throughout the year so you're never bored. The best dining hall is 100% East Village. Penland is good depending on what you get, but sometimes meat is undercooked and there was an issue at the beginning of the year where people got food poisoning from it. Brooks has the best staff, and Memo has a couple of good stations but mostly is pretty mid. Baylor is so generous with Scholarships and Financial Aid for the regular school year, but just know if you're taking Summer classes, there are only loan options unless you're graduating early.
