NOW, THE CEREMONY WAS DELAYED AND GUESTS WERE ASKED TO TAKE SHELTER AS POLICE RESPONDED TO THE AREA. WITNESSES SAY IT WAS A CHAOTIC AND FRIGHTENING SCENE. WELL, CHRIS, AROUND 7:00 TONIGHT AS THAT GRADUATION CEREMONY WAS GETTING STARTED AND POLICE RESPONDED TO A VEHICLE JUST OUTSIDE OF TRUIST ARENA ON A STREET NEARBY, WHERE THEY HAD A REPORT OF A MAN WITH A KNIFE. AND THEY CAME UPON THAT VEHICLE WITH THREE PEOPLE INSIDE, ALL HEADED TO THE GRADUATION CEREMONY INVOLVED IN A DOMESTIC DISPUTE INSIDE THE CAR. NOW, WE’RE TOLD IT WAS A SITUATION BETWEEN SIBLINGS. ONE MAN IS BEING TREATED FOR NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES THAT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ATTEMPTING TO GRAB A KNIFE. A SECURITY GUARD TOLD ME SHE WITNESSED SOMEONE JUMP OUT OF THE CAR SCREAMING FOR HELP, WHILE ANOTHER PERSON TOOK OFF RUNNING FROM THE SCENE. CAMPUS POLICE AND CAMPBELL COUNTY POLICE RESPONDED, AND AT THIS POINT, NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED. NOW WE’RE TOLD NONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED ARE PART OF COLERAIN AVENUE 24 GRADUATING CLASS. NOW, A SHORT WHILE LATER, INSIDE THE ARENA, GUESTS TELL US THEY WITNESSED A FIGHT BREAK OUT WHILE PEOPLE WERE BEING SEATED. I SPOKE TO ONE WOMAN SITTING ACROSS THE AISLE WHO WITNESSED TWO WOMEN GETTING INTO A FIGHT OVER A SEAT. SHE WANTED THAT SEAT AND SHE SAID, NO, I’LL SIT HERE FIRST. AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY STARTED FIST FIGHTING AND THE ONE WOMAN WAS HOLDING A NEWBORN BABY. YEAH, A BRAND NEW BABY. I JUST FELT LIKE IT WAS GRADUATION. COME ON, YOU KNOW, HE DID NOT. NOW, A SHORT WHILE LATER, THIS CEREMONY WAS ABLE TO RESUME AND THEY WERE GIVEN THE ALL CLEAR A SPOKESPERSON FROM NKU SAYS THAT THE INCIDENT ON DUNN ROAD WAS ISOLATED, AND AT NO TIME WAS ANYONE INSIDE THE ARENA OR ON CAMPUS IN AN

A domestic disturbance involving a knife at Northern Kentucky University prompted a safety alert on Tuesday night.The alert went out around 7 p.m., saying a "dangerous situation" was reported at Truist Arena, encouraging people to take shelter and avoid the area. A short time later, university officials said the situation was contained and that no threat existed. In a statement on Tuesday night, the university said police received a call around 7 p.m. for a report of a man with a knife on Nunn Drive, on NKU's campus.Upon arrival, police located three people who were on their way to Colerain High School’s graduation at Truist Arena, who were involved in a domestic dispute. One man who was involved in the dispute was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The university said he injured his hand while attempting to grab a knife. The university said the disturbance was an isolated incident and that nobody on campus or inside Truist Arena was ever in danger. None of the individuals involved in the dispute were part of Colerain's graduating class.Northwest Local School District released a statement on the incident, saying in part "NWLSD’s Administration was made aware of the incident after graduation concluded. Fortunately, tonight’s ceremony was not impacted in any way by the incident that took place on NKU’s campus. We are extremely proud of the 466 students who graduated today, many with honors and with scholarships. We hope that what took place does not overshadow the tremendous achievements of our students."
